Breast Cancer Screening: When Should You Get a Mammogram?

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Indian women — and also one of the most treatable when caught early. The five-year survival rate for early-stage breast cancer is over 90%. The single most effective tool for early detection? A mammogram.

When Should You Start?

• Age 40+: screening mammogram every 1–2 years, even with no symptoms.
• Age 50–74: continue every 1–2 years — highest benefit age band.
• Family history: talk to your doctor about starting earlier.
• Under 40 with symptoms: usually evaluated first with breast ultrasound (sono mammography), also available at our centre.

Warning Signs to Never Ignore

• A new lump in the breast or underarm
• Change in breast size, shape or skin texture
• Nipple discharge or nipple turning inward
• Persistent breast pain in one spot

What to Expect

The exam takes 15–20 minutes with complete privacy and female staff assistance at Ruprela. Schedule for the week after your period, and don't apply deodorant or powder on the chest area that day.
